Narrative- Carol Vernalis describes her theory particularly with the narrative aspect, and she believes that the video is a response to the lyrics and narrative. Therefore, whatever happens on screen; visually, reflects on the choice of the lyrics from the singer. Our music video tends to reflect the lyrics of the singer in some manner as well, for example, the lyrics describes how the singer(actor) had met a girl and fallen in love with her and everything goes well with them but the girls cheats on him, in our video we followed the narrative and our actor Devon had a girlfriend but then he finds out that she cheats on him. One particular part which i would like to look closely is the lyrics saying, "until you disappeared with him, to have sex of course" over here we could understand that of course the girl had an affair with another person, and in our video we made a scene/shot where Devon finds out in a party that his girlfriend is cheating on him with another person as well. we have not quite finished our filming so i cannot provide images yet.
Editing- Vernalis also claims that a convention of music editing is that the video may break conventions of continuity editing. For example, Vernalis says that in order for this to work the audience may see : Jump Cuts, Breaking the 4th wall and the 30 degree rule, slow motion and changes in pace. In our video we meet these factors brought up by Carol, except the slow motion effect as we chose not to apply it on our editing. firstly, we have many jump cut shots in our video, as the music has a fast pace and in order for the audience to stay engaged with the video; visually there has to be a rapid pace. Devon, our main actor in the video stays in contact with the camera throughout the video so as the theory points out we do break the 4th wall and our actor does keep eye contact with the camera this happens a lot at all the base tracks. Also, we do have changes in pace because, its a must as the audience has to find the video interesting rather than watching a steady pace and getting them bored. for example, the change in pace occurs when the beat drops in the music.
Camera movements and Framing- Carol Vernalis states that establishing shots are definitely one of the key camera features of a music video and are used frequently in a music video as well as close up shots. we have many types of shots in our video for example, close ups, long shots mid shot, low angle, panning and etc. for example, in the beginning of the video we have a close up shot of Devon's face to start the video and where he sings the lyrics. we have a low angle, where Devon walks down the stairs and the camera is looking up to him, also when he leaves his house door the camera follows him from the side whilst walking to practice the panning shot.
Diegesis- Plot - Diegesis is the world of music videos and Vernalis says how it would be explained and revealed slowly as the video progresses. In our video we meet this claim and as the narrative explains how the person finds out their girlfriend cheated on them by having an affair. In our video we have we stat with Devon singing to the music and getting ready, travelling to the party and they drink get drunk and he finds his girlfriend with someone else.
