What is the function of a music video

A music video is defined as a short film integrating a song and imagery. Modern music videos are used as a marketing device and promote the sales of music recordings

History and Development of Music Videos-

in 1924, with the arrival of the 'Talkies' many short musical films were made. Talkies is a motion picture with a synchronised sound. The first ever Short music film aired on the famous music Tv channel 'MTV' was 'Video Killed the Radio Star' by, The Buggles. The tittle tends to give an understanding of the purpose of the video as it says "video killed the radio star" which suggests that music videos are now over taking the music industry and listening via the radio is going to 'die out'

However, in contrast to the past era music videos' projection and the aims has changed completely. Its still targeted to catch the audiences attention however, the muse-en-scene and camera work is now used to portray certain type of characters in a way its affecting the audiences. For example, before music videos were't targeted to show females as sex objects and that the 'good' way of living is doing drugs and spending money; spendings on fashion.
For Example, Women are always dressed in a way where there body is exposed and camera tends to show close up of their body which hows their important for their body parts only. Men are shown with many expensive jewellery and clothing also, doing drugs; portraying that women are sex objects and men should live like this.
